Magic: The Gathering Card Shops

The Magic: The Gathering tag covers 5,124 listings in 2,584 cities across all 50 states — 2,823 independent shops and 2,301 chain locations.

Like Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh!, this tag is asserted for every business the directory files under trading card games or under both categories, on the reasoning that the three long-established games are near-universal at a dedicated card shop. That makes the page comprehensive and imprecise at the same time: it is a good list of card shops, not a list of shops that run competitive events.

29 of these listings also match a name-and-description rule for "Magic", "MTG" or "Gathering". That rule has a known failure mode worth flagging, because it is the only specialty rule on the site that does: "magic" is an ordinary English word, so a shop named for stage magic or using it decoratively can match without dealing in the card game at all. Where the site makes a claim about an individual shop — the "Best For" block on a shop page, for instance — it uses this evidence-backed subset, so the rule's imprecision is worth knowing about.

Nothing here records event schedules. Whether a shop drafts on Fridays, holds Commander nights, or has a Standard scene at all is outside what the directory stores; the phone number on the listing is the way to find out. Heaviest states: Texas (541), California (531), Florida (347), New York (251), and Ohio (210). Heaviest cities: Houston, Texas (47), San Antonio, Texas (47), Las Vegas, Nevada (36), and Brooklyn, New York (29). 4,830 carry a phone number, 4,571 post hours, and 4,300 link to a website, and 3,622 of the 5,124 carry a Google rating.
