How the distance search works

This page sorts the directory by how far each shop is from you. Pressing the button below asks your browser for a location; if you allow it, the page downloads a compact index of the 6,844 listings that have coordinates on file — name, city, state, slug, latitude, longitude, rating and review count, and nothing else — and computes a great-circle distance to each one in your browser. The twelve nearest come back sorted.

Your coordinates are not sent anywhere. There is no request to this site carrying them, no cookie holding them, and nothing written to disk; the calculation happens in the page and is gone when you close the tab. If you decline the prompt, or the browser cannot get a fix, nothing breaks — the ranked city and state lists below are the whole page's content and render without any of this.

Two limits worth knowing. The distances are straight-line, so a shop eight miles away across a bay is not an eight-mile drive. And the list is drawn from all 6,844 listings, which includes 2,345 national chain locations — a nearest-first sort will surface a GameStop if a GameStop is genuinely the closest. For a local-shops-only view, open your city page from the lists below: those lead with the 4,499 independent shops and collect chains separately.

Coverage is uneven by design of the underlying data rather than by choice. 3,100 cities in 50 states have at least one listing, but 1,764 of those cities have exactly one, so in much of the country the nearest shop and the second-nearest are a long way apart.
